LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 lets you take Legos to a whole new level! Not only does it let you build 6 different (and awesome) robots, it also lets you unleash them into the world by allowing them to be remote controlled. The kit comes with 3 interactive servo motors, remote control, improved and redesigned color sensor, redesigned touch sensor, infrared sensor, intelligent EV3 brick (the heart and soul of the robot) and 550+ LEGO® Technic elements.
Once you build your robot, attach it to your computer via the supplied USB cable and then download the EV3 software (MAC or PC) from the Lego web site. The software comes with pre-defined “missions” that you can use to program your robot. Once you get comfortable with the smaller missions, then the real fun begins! Make it move forwards, backwards, turn around as many times as you want, shoot rockets, play music if someone triggers the infrared sensor, etc. If you are worried that the programming part might be too hard for your kids, don’t worry. Just login to the LEGO.com/mindstorms and you will get plenty of help. There are videos that explain the different things you can do with it.
Keep an eye on our blog in the upcoming weeks because we will be giving you our review of this bad boy.
